CORD JEWELRY. Events and memories

The number 22 of the collection edited by the Museo del Comercio dedicated to the history of shops and industries with tradition, in Salamanca, has as its protagonist the Cordón Jewelry. Jewelry has been, for centuries, a flourishing bouquet of commerce in the city. Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, in his fleeting visit to Salamanca, at the end of the 19th century, described the Rua as a street where booksellers and jewelers alternated. One of these companies that have prolonged its history for several generations, dedicated to the jewelry business, has been Cordón. The importance of the business in Salamanca is evidenced by the fact that a three-storey construction, built around 1932, has become popularly known as Edificio Cordón. The text of this new installment of the Museum of Commerce is written by María Eugenia Cordón Rodríguez. María Eugenia is part of the third generation of this family of jewelers. He has written a truffled history of memories, where he narrates the evolution of the company and the work he has been doing for Salamancan society since its foundation.
