14 Million Eyes

COLLECTION, PHOTOGRAPHY, PUBLIC

Curated by: Olga Fernández López

The exhibition 14 million eyes. Collection, photography, public, offers a journey through the photographic collection of the Community of Madrid, curated by Olga Fernández López and preserved at CA2M. Dos de Mayo Art Center Museum. The exhibition presents a history of the collection's configuration through more than 175 photographs. The works of over a hundred photographers – Ramón Masats, Alberto García-Alix, Cristina García Rodero, Javier Vallhonrat, Carmela García, Bleda y Rosa, and Tanit Plana, among others – are organized around four themes: Madrid, Spanish photography in the nineties, the questioning of the medium, and the bodies that inhabit it. One of the evident aspects that stand out when reconstructing the exhibition's narrative is that the formation of the Community of Madrid's collection has not only responded to an acquisition process, but has also been intertwined with a series of policies on photography developed over these more than thirty years, which have contributed not only to its inclusion in cultural heritage, but also to the popularization of this medium.
