For Families
With children
Behind its serious and cultured university facade, there is a fun city full of “treasures” to discover on an “adventurous,” non-stop journey where you can have fun, be fascinated, and be scared. In short, be entertained and learn in a “gentle” way without even realizing it. We suggest several activities to do if you come to the city as a family, with children:
The first thing you should do is go to the Tourist Information Office; there they will inform you of everything: the city map and the opening hours of the monuments. You have at your disposal, free of charge:
-A tourist application with an audio guide, routes, and cultural agenda. Search for Salamanca Turismo in your market.
-Cultural agenda at www.ciudaddecultura.org
For the little ones, we propose two games:
A walk through the old town discovering the carved details on the facades of the monuments. At the Tourist Information Office, you can purchase, for €0.50, the material "La Patrulla Renacuaja" (The Tadpole Patrol), a family game to get to know the city that proposes a cultural route where you overcome several challenges. Also, the game Salamanca en detalles Kids (Salamanca in Details Kids), with which you can discover the details of the rich facades of the city's monuments, and the album 'Pequeños pies' (Little Feet).
We are now equipped.
To start your tour of the city, you can begin at Monumenta Salmanticae, in the Church of San Millán, Veracruz street, where there is a City Heritage Interpretation Center with a large model of the historic center on which a video show is projected with simpler explanations for children and tactile monitors. There, they can also find city information on touch screens, try on virtual reality glasses to discover other visitable spaces in the city, and the most fun part: participate in an escape game. It is a game of observation and ingenuity to be played in a team (with a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of 6), aimed at all audiences. Reservations are required at 628 05 24 90. But you can check other fun games here.
Visit the Art Nouveau and Art Deco Museum; it contains a curious collection of porcelain dolls, automaton dolls, and toys that children will love. It is also housed in a modernist building with stained glass windows.
Also, enter the Museum of Automotive History, an exhibition space with more than 200 vehicles, documents, and accessories related to the automobile.
The "Artilugios para fascinar" (Gadgets to Fascinate) collection displays various animation and projection systems in a fun visit where you can discover how a magic lantern or a zoetrope works. It is located at the Filmoteca de Castilla y León.
And at the Museum of Commerce and Industry, you can show them the inventions and innovations that once solved the problems of manufacturers, sellers, and consumers.
Climbing the towers of the cathedral and La Clerecía is another interesting proposal. When you are visiting, don't forget to download their interactive game with challenges and questions to complete during the tour. In the Huerto de Calixto y Melibea (Calixto and Melibea's Garden), you can take a restorative break.
If you like archaeology, these are the places you should know: the Interpretation Center of the Salamanca walls, next to it, a mysterious place, the Cueva de Salamanca (Cave of Salamanca); the Museum of Cerro de San Vicente, where the first inhabitants of the city settled; The Botanical Archaeological Park (there you will complete the guided visit with 3D glasses that will allow you to see a digital recreation of the space, to imagine what the buildings that stood there centuries ago looked like). And finally, the Pozo de Nieve (Snow Well) and the underground galleries.

FAMILY FUN
We have gathered all the games here.
At the city's Contemporary Art Centre, the DA2, there are usually exhibitions and workshops for the little ones (inquire).
The city can be comfortably visited by walking, for the more energetic you can rent a bicycle. If the weather is good, head to the pier - which is between the iron bridge and the Roman one - to walk along the river bank or take a boat trip on the Tormes, where one of the city's viewpoints is located.
A few minutes from the centre of Salamanca is the Barrio del Oeste, a place where canvases are garage doors, shop shutters, walls, party walls, urban furniture. An Urban Gallery open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, which has created another scenario, another neighbourhood and another city, more artistic, more cultural. The Urban Gallery is a project that arises from the need to bring art to all audiences. You can take two tours of the Urban Gallery through its app. More info: https://www.galeriaurbanasalamanca.es
There are numerous hotels and apart-hotels that have adapted rooms to accommodate the whole family; with cots, bunk beds and spaces designed and created for the little ones. Some include special amenities for children, others offer a baby kit, upon request, with a bathtub, night lamp, baby carrier backpack, blender cup and bottle warmer.
You can eat in any of the city's restaurants, some of which have spaces equipped with playrooms and game rooms for the little ones.
And as a reward: an ice cream in the Plaza Mayor in summer or hot chocolate with churros in winter.
If you want to buy something, the commercial area is located around Toro and Zamora streets. If you want to take a souvenir home, you can visit the souvenir shops in the centre, on Calle la Rúa, or go to La Tienda de Turismo de Salamanca (under the City Hall clock), which has a fun line of merchandising inspired by the city of Salamanca: teddy bears, watches, balls, paintings…
If you are going to spend several days in Salamanca and can visit the province, these are other recommendations:
A day of skiing in La Covatilla or visiting the rock art site of Siega Verde, where you can see rock engravings of animals. You can also visit the Arribes del Duero Natural Park (the Park House is in Sobradillo castle). In Aldeadávila and Vilvestre you can take a boat trip on the Duero river, go on nature routes and spot birds: golden eagles, griffon vultures, falcons and storks. In Ciudad Rodrigo there is the Interpretation Centre of Fortifications where you can dress up as a soldier and in San Felices you can feel like authentic crusaders. Nearby, there is the archaeological classroom of Yecla de Yeltes and Lumbrales, where you can enter an ancient Vetton hill fort. For them, it is very fun to visit a cheese or honey factory. The more daring can visit an adventure park in nature (in San Miguel de Valero or San Felices), explore the Iron Road (the old railway line) or go canoeing. More info on the province at: https://www.salamancaemocion.es
Thanks to its tourism strategy and its wide and varied offer, Salamanca has received the Family Tourism seal.
