Salamanca City of Culture

Salamanca is a place where knowledge and beauty intersect. Its museums, theaters, festivals, and cultural centers offer diverse, accessible, and high-quality programming. And beyond major events, culture permeates every corner: in a precisely carved facade, in a café where poetry is read, in conversation with someone sharing the history of a neighborhood.
Salamanca is not just a city with culture; it is a city of culture bustling with activity, where diversity, quality, and openness to new values are the key elements on the city's cultural agenda.
A perfect combination of the classical and new forms of artistic and cultural expression. Many of these modern influences are rooted in the city's own past, which continues to showcase its traditions through the celebration of its rites and customs, its dances, and its gastronomy, often reinterpreted in new ways.

WALKS THROUGH SALAMANCA

Walking is perhaps one of the best ways to “get to know” a city, to feel its pulse and to try to make it synchronize with our own rhythm.

Salamanca, as a World Heritage City, possesses a rich monumental legacy, as well as corners, accents, crossroads where one can meet characters from the past, present or future. For this reason, and especially in autumn and spring, Salamanca organizes WALKS THROUGH SALAMANCA. A program of free guided tours of the city.

Varied routes that combine stops at the great icons, the so-called symbolic doors –cathedral, University, San Esteban–, with the discovery of small Romanesque churches from the repopulation period, convents where a unique form of female spirituality developed, the settings of the French occupation, or the most special details of its facades; coats of arms or medallions.

Visits are organized in spring. Salamanca Tourist Information Office Plaza Mayor 32, 37002 T. 923 21 83 42 / 902 30 20 02 www.salamanca.es

CULTURED AND HIDDEN SALAMANCA (JULY AND AUGUST) Music, theater, screenings and performances in some of the city's most significant spaces and corners. During the summer months, taking advantage of the good weather, culture is enjoyed in the streets and offers the possibility of enjoying jazz concerts in Gardens with a view of the cathedral, magic in the Cueva de Salamanca or theatrical performances and guided tours to better understand the history of the characters that are part of the city's history.

HERITAGE NIGHT (SEPTEMBER 21ST)

A celebration for citizens, residents and visitors to enjoy and experience this unique Cultural Heritage in the world, which belongs to and is for all Humanity. The cities that form the group of World Heritage Cities of Spain organize this event that allows the opening of a selection of heritage and cultural spaces during special hours.

THE KEYS TO THE CITY (NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER) The "Keys to the City" program is a good opportunity to get to know the non-visible part of this historic city. It allows discovering spaces and places that are normally closed to the public through guided tours by the inhabitants of the convents, palaces... or by expert archaeologists, and even fictional characters, through theatrical performances. They are free and take place during the months of November and December.

SALAMANCA IS CHRISTMAS During Christmas, many cultural and tourist activities and street entertainment are organized in the city. Christmas music and lighting create a special atmosphere in the streets. In many places, you can visit the traditional nativity scenes and listen to choir concerts performing carols. Markets, Christmas dances, the New Year's Concert, the Three Kings' Parade and the traditional San Silvestre are other events of these festivities.
