Trusting the Invisible

Venancio Blanco Foundation Collection

Venue: Santo Domingo de la Cruz Exhibition Hall
Curated by: Victor Rico

Trusting the Invisible is an exhibition proposal that consists of exploring the work of Venancio Blanco through a direct and personal approach.
In this sense, the proposal seeks to delve into the faith that Venancio Blanco professed in art, understood as an unwavering trust in the power of artistic practice. That faith not only frames his career but is also reflected in the way he confronted the unknowns of his time, trying to understand them and give them form through his work. Observing his sculptures, drawings, engravings, or paintings, the patience, constancy, and dedication that sustained his entire career become evident. As the artist stated: «Drawing teaches you to look, to learn to see». That trust is also reflected in the way he understood the world, from the natures he recreated in his drawings to the sculptures inspired by the music he listened to, showing that each work is a search for meaning in the face of what he saw and what surrounded him.
The concept of Trusting the Invisible transversally crosses his career.
His approach to art stemmed from an intimate certainty in the capacity of creation to give meaning and transform human experience. As he himself affirmed: «I would change the word faith for trust…». This trust is reflected both
in his way of working and in his way of understanding the environment, unfolding a constant search for meaning that still resonates strongly in his legacy today.
