Dangerous Liaisons is an excellent play by Christopher Hampton based on Choderlos de Laclos's novel of the same name, which has only been performed once in Madrid. It is considered one of the great works of 18th-century French literature. Although the novel was published in 1782, it is a text that addresses highly current issues in our time, such as the abuse of power, consent, or how money, unfortunately, manages to buy almost everything. The story centers on the cruel game of seduction between two unscrupulous aristocrats: the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont. Both manipulate those around them for pure pleasure and ambition through intrigue and blackmail, turning their victims' lives into a battlefield. Author: Christopher Hampton.
