Contemporary Visions
CANDELA SOTOS
Curated by: Playtime Audiovisuales
In 2026, Contemporary Visions, the latest trends in cinema and video in Spain, a project curated by Playtime Audiovisuales (Enrique Piñuel Martín and Natalia Piñuel Martín), reaches its fourteenth edition, and we inaugurate the season with a cycle dedicated to the visual artist and filmmaker Candela Sotos, who works interdisciplinarily with archives, image, and botany. She incorporates different methodologies that link oral transmission with collaborative practice, seeking ways to produce images and narratives around memory, which materialize in various formats: installations, publications, and films. She studied Audiovisual Communication in Madrid and a Master's in Plastic Arts and Photography at Paris 8. She was also part of the Artists Program at Torcuato di Tella University in Buenos Aires. She has presented her work in art centers and festivals such as CRA Matadero Madrid, Sala de Arte Joven (Madrid), Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia (León), Centro Pompidou Málaga, and the Centro Cultural de la Memoria Haroldo Conti (Argentina) among others, in addition to the International Festival Visions du Réel (Switzerland), Seminci (Valladolid), and the Spanish Film Festival of Toulouse, where she won the award for best documentary. She has been selected for the Plastic Arts Circuit of the Community of Madrid and has received creation grants from the Ministry of Culture, the National Arts Fund of Argentina, and the Madrid City Council. She is part of the artist catalog of Galería Freijo (Madrid). Candela Sotos lives and works in Madrid, and this will be the first time she exhibits her work in Salamanca.
