Salamanca is one of Spain's regions with the deepest bullfighting tradition.
The countryside in Salamanca is bull country and, furthermore, has been the cradle of great bullfighters such as El Viti, Julio Robles, and El Niño de la Capea, among others. For all these reasons, in Salamanca, La Fiesta is experienced in a special way, thanks to the deep roots it has had in the Charro capital throughout the centuries.
The Virgen de la Vega Fair is the ultimate expression of the bullfighting celebrations held in Salamanca. Its roots are found in the cattle fairs that were held centuries ago in the city.
Every year in September, the leading bullfighters of the current scene gather at La Glorieta Bullring. Inaugurated in 1893, this impressive Neo-Mudéjar style bullfighting arena accommodates a total of 10,858 spectators and is located on Paseo de la Merced.
The Salamanca School of Bullfighting was founded in 1985. Here, students receive theoretical and practical training related to the various techniques of bullfighting and, at the same time, receive information on the cultural and professional aspects surrounding the world of bullfighting, thus fulfilling the objectives of promoting quality education and fostering an interest in bullfighting.
