LA CUARESMERA 2018
Following the trend started three years ago for the calendar illustration to be done by different local artists, this year's has been commissioned to Andrés Alén.
Lent, -a period of forty days, of fasting and abstinence from meat, which precedes Easter and begins on Ash Wednesday- already appears documented in French literature of the 13th century and in Castile in the 14th century by the Archpriest of Hita in El Libro del Buen Amor.
In the 17th century, the popular representation of Lent became widespread in Central Europe, in the form of a Lenten calendar, representing the seven weeks of Lent.
