THE CUARESMERA 2019
The 2026 image has been created by illustrator Luis de Horna.
The calendar was hung in shops and homes to count the passage of the seven weeks of Lent, a period of fasting and abstinence from meat that precedes Holy Week.
The figure of the old woman with seven legs and the foods typical of the religious vigil period, vegetables and fish, was usually produced in cardboard or wood.
It was displayed in grocery store windows to advertise the sale of salted cod.
