The calendar was hung in shops and homes to count the passage of the seven weeks of Lent, a period of fasting and abstinence from meat that precedes Holy Week.

The figure of the old woman with seven legs and the typical foods of the religious vigil period, vegetables and fish, was usually produced in cardboard or wood.

In the windows of grocery stores, it was displayed to announce the sale of salted cod.
