La Cuaresmera 2026
The 2026 image has been created by designer María Crisóstomo
The calendar was hung in shops and homes to count the passing of the seven weeks of Lent, a period of fasting and abstinence from meat that precedes Holy Week.
The figure of the old woman with seven legs and the foods typical of the religious vigil period, vegetables and fish, was usually made of cardboard or wood.
It was placed in plain sight in grocery store windows to announce the sale of salted cod.
