CULTURE IN VOGUE. SERRANO EMBROIDERY HANDICRAFTS.
The Museo del Comercio is exhibiting, until July 3, a provincial handicraft exhibition that has, as its common thread, the typical iconographic motifs of the popular embroidery produced in the Sierra de Francia.
Clay, wood, metal, glass, plastic… are the mediums onto which each artisan has incorporated these motifs with the intention of creating a distinctive identity for products from that region.
The Red Arrayán Association for Culture, Heritage and Environment has launched the so-called Plan EnTre2, which has among its objectives the Recognition and Safeguarding of the Popular Embroidery of the Sierra de Francia, conceived as a significant part of its cultural heritage. To this end, Red Arrayán is working to achieve, in the near future, its declaration as a “Cultural Heritage Asset” (BIC) by the Junta de Castilla y León.
Additionally, Plan Entre2 aims for Cultural Immersion and Creative Innovation in the Salamanca mountain ranges, thereby generating new products and services to foster greater economic development in those areas.
To this end, the convergence of creators and artisan workshops has been sought as a common thread for new resources, jointly developing various activities that serve to promote the richness of this cultural and identity-defining heritage.
The exhibition currently on display features several examples of that collaborative work, as the handcrafted products on display incorporate traditional motifs and decorations historically developed in the Salamanca mountain ranges.
This initiative has been highlighted by the Local Action Group ADRISS, through the ART-RURAL cooperation program of the Salamanca Mountain Ranges. Together with other Groups in the Region and with the cooperation of the Culture Department of the Provincial Council (Diputación) and the Tourism Department of Salamanca City Council, this exhibition aims to contribute to the Sustainable Development of the Social and Economic Fabric of Rural Territories.
