THE MIRAT NEIGHBORHOOD. LEGACY OF AN INDUSTRIALIST FROM SALAMANCA

Two years ago, this institution had the opportunity to access the business documentation preserved by Mirat S.A., probably the oldest industry in Salamanca. Among this documentation, several folders dedicated to the construction of the neighborhood built at the beginning of the 20th century by Juan Casimiro Mirat were found, a fundamental figure for understanding the arrival of modernity in Salamanca.

The authors, María Ordoñez and Mark Zoder, have carried out in-depth research, providing new data about the industrialist family and one of their main contributions to Salamanca: the neighborhood that gives its name to one of the most well-known streets in its network: Mirat Avenue. The Notebooks are sold for 2.5 euros at the Tourism shop in Plaza Mayor, and the Museum of Commerce itself.
