THE COLISEUM THEATER. A PASSAGE TO FUN AND DREAMS

The Coliseum theater-cinema remains present in the collective imagination, having given its name to one of the passages in the Plaza Mayor. The Coliseum theater-cinema was one of Salamanca's most emblematic centers dedicated to culture and entertainment. It first opened its doors to the public in 1933 and for almost six decades maintained a national-level program. Its stage hosted the finest of Hispanic song and theater, and its billboard featured some of the most important film premieres each year. Tomás Rivas Verdú lived the history of the theater from childhood, because his father was professionally linked to the Coliseum from almost its inauguration until its definitive closure. He has preserved many graphic and textual documents that illustrate that history. This, coupled with his memory, forms the pillars upon which this text is based, serving to remember another business fondly recalled by the people of Salamanca.
