JOYERÍA CORDÓN. Milestones and Memories

Jewelry has been, for centuries, a flourishing branch of commerce in the city. Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, during his fleeting visit to Salamanca at the end of the 19th century, described La Rúa as a street where booksellers and jewelers alternated.

One of these businesses that has extended its history for several generations, dedicated to the jewelry trade, has been Cordón. Proof of the business's importance in Salamanca is the fact that a three-story building, erected around 1932, has been popularly known by the name of Cordón Building.

The text of this new installment from the Museum of Commerce is written by María Eugenia Cordón Rodríguez. María Eugenia is part of the third generation of this family of jewelers. She has written a story full of memories, where she narrates the evolution of the company and the work it has been doing for Salamancan society since its foundation.
