EL BARATO TOY STORE. A FACTORY OF DREAMS
Toys are as old as mankind. However, there haven't always been specialized stores whose exclusive business was selling toys. For such establishments to become a reality, family purchasing power had to increase, a development that didn't occur in Salamanca until the 20th century.
This booklet tells the story of a toy store in our city. The author of the text is Marta Bonilla, who wrote it based on the testimonies of Bernardo and Enrique García Sanjosé and Juana Lozano, professionally connected to El Barato for decades.
Founded at the end of the Civil War, the business remains buoyant after seventy years in operation. As Marta explains, El Barato's story "is the tale of a family business that has witnessed the great evolution experienced over the years in this magical world, and here is our small tribute to a lifetime of work performing a truly challenging task: nurturing the dreams of the household's little monarchs, the children." With this goal achieved, El Barato toy store continues to breathe life into the city's toy trade.
Inside the store, the third generation of the family, Diana and Enrique, continue to advise their customers with warmth and dedication, just as their grandfather Bernardo once did, and later their father and uncle. For this reason, and for a professional life backed by hard work and dedication, El Barato is and will always continue to be a factory of dreams.
