THE REGIONAL EXHIBITION OF 1907. MERCADO CENTRAL DE ABASTOS

This third issue of the Cuadernos del Museo del Comercio is dedicated to the Central Market, which in this year 2009 celebrates the centenary of its official inauguration. We wanted to pay tribute to the Market by writing about a significant event that occurred two years before its inauguration. Trying to emulate the great Spanish and European cities, Salamanca decides to organize a great regional agricultural, livestock, and industrial fair. The agricultural and livestock exhibition will be installed in La Alamedilla and the interior of the Central Market will be conditioned to receive the industrial exhibition. The main provincial industries and the city's businesses will prepare their stands in an exciting atmosphere that will be widely covered by local media. This was not the first regional exhibition Salamanca had prepared, but it was the one that had the most commercial and social impact at a time when modernity was knocking at the doors. The notebooks are sold for 2.5 euros at the Tourism Shop in Plaza Mayor and the Museo del Comercio itself.
