THE REGIONAL EXHIBITION OF 1907. MERCADO CENTRAL DE ABASTOS
This third issue of the Cuadernos del Museo del Comercio is dedicated to the Mercado Central de Abastos, which in 2009 celebrates the centenary of its official inauguration. We wanted to pay tribute to the Market by writing about a significant event that occurred shortly after the building's completion, two years before its inauguration. Attempting to emulate major Spanish and European cities, Salamanca decided to organize a grand regional agricultural, livestock, and industrial fair. The agricultural and livestock exhibition would be set up in La Alamedilla, and the interior of the Central Market would be prepared to host the industrial display. The main provincial industries and city businesses would prepare their stands in an inspiring atmosphere that would be widely covered by local media. This was not Salamanca's first regional exhibition, but it was the one that had the most commercial and social impact at a time when modernity was knocking at the door. 27.5x15cm, €2.50
