LIBRERÍA-PAPELERÍA CALÓN. OVER A CENTURY ALONGSIDE SALAMANCA'S CULTURE

This volume you hold, dear reader, is the first title in a collection that aims to honor traditional commerce in Salamanca. Each issue in the series will be a monograph dedicated to a specific business and will have been chosen, among other reasons, for its illustration of the history of our city or province.
This is not, however, a closed collection. The number of titles will largely depend on the popular acceptance of this project and on the interest of those who wish to see themselves reflected in it. The collection will thus be open to all businesses that originated in this city or province prior to 1950 and whose commercial trajectory has been deemed by the Museum to be representative of Salamanca's mercantile history.
Librería-Papelería Calón permanently closed its doors a few weeks ago after over one hundred and thirty years of commercial endeavor. Its deep connection to the city's culture, as reflected throughout the following pages, will undoubtedly come as a surprise to many Salmantinos.
