THE COLISEUM THEATER. A PASSAGE TO FUN AND DREAMS

The Museum of Commerce has published a new issue in its collection dedicated to old businesses in the capital and province. This 19th installment is a monograph on the Coliseum cinema-theater, still present in the collective imagination, having (popularly) given its name to one of the passages leading to and from Plaza Mayor.
The Coliseum cinema-theater was one of Salamanca's most emblematic centers for culture and entertainment. It first opened its doors to the public in 1933, and for nearly six decades, it maintained a nationally renowned program. Its stage hosted the most brilliant figures in Hispanic song and theater, and its listings featured some of the most significant film premieres each year.
This new installment in the series on the History of Commerce and Industry of Salamanca, published by the museum, is written by Tomás Rivas, who experienced the theater's history from childhood, as his father was professionally linked to the Coliseum from almost its inauguration until its definitive closure.
Tomás Rivas has preserved many graphic and textual documents that illustrate this history. This, combined with his memory, forms the foundation of this text, which will serve to remember another business fondly cherished by the people of Salamanca.
