The University of Salamanca is a Spanish public university based in the city of Salamanca, within whose municipality most of its centers are located, although it also has centers in the cities of Zamora, Ávila, Béjar, and in the town of Villamayor.
The Current USAL
Currently, the University of Salamanca continues to maintain its strong appeal and has a stable student body of around 30,000 students. To cater to them, it has nine campuses distributed among Salamanca, Ávila, Zamora, Béjar, and Villamayor, which house 26 faculties and higher education schools, as well as all the research centers covering aspects as varied as biosciences or laser technology, through agri-food developments, neurosciences, historical studies, or basic research, among others.

These are joined by centers dedicated to strengthening academic and cultural ties with other countries and cultures, such as the Spanish-Japanese Cultural Center, the Center for Brazilian Studies, or the Institute of Ibero-American Studies, where the continuous movement of professors and students maintains bonds and creates new future perspectives in established alliances.

Another distinctive feature of the University is the teaching of Spanish, which attracts thousands of foreign students through various educational programs developed at one of the world's most prestigious training centers for foreigners: Cursos Internacionales de la Universidad de Salamanca (International Courses of the University of Salamanca). For years, Cursos Internacionales has been preparing the Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE), and recently, an agreement signed with the Instituto Cervantes, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and the University of Buenos Aires has made the University of Salamanca, along with them, lead the development of the first digital certificate of Spanish (SIELE), which can be taken from anywhere in the world and will carry the certification of the Salamanca institution as a guarantee of its validity.

Distinguished Figures
The science and technology developed at the University of Salamanca have played a leading role in some of the most significant advances of recent centuries. From the Salamanca institution emerged personalities such as Torres Villarroel and Abraham Zacut, who developed the Almanach Perpetuum, an essential astronomical treatise for navigation that made it possible to connect continents.

The advanced thinking of Francisco de Vitoria has led to Salamanca being considered the cradle of International Law, but its classrooms have also seen other illustrious figures such as Fray Luis de León, Francisco de Salinas, or Antonio de Nebrija, creator of the first Spanish grammar.

In more recent times, the University has hosted great thinkers and statesmen such as Miguel de Unamuno, Enrique Iglesias, Jacques Delors, and Adolfo Suárez, who have contributed to the construction of the international order.

The Cloister of Doctors includes heads of state from several Ibero-American countries such as Fernando E. Cardoso, Oscar Arias, Ricardo Lagos, Luiz I. Lula da Silva, and Tavaré Vázquez Rosas; Nobel laureates such as Mario Vargas Llosa, José Saramago, Paul Nurse, and Severo Ochoa; and thinkers and researchers who have marked the course of their disciplines, driving the progress of knowledge. The humanism, intelligence, and talent cultivated over eight centuries make the University of Salamanca a leading institution in the world.
