JOYERÍA CORDÓN. Milestones and Memories

The 22nd issue of the collection published by the Museo del Comercio (Museum of Commerce), dedicated to the history of traditional businesses and industries in Salamanca, features Joyería Cordón.

Jewellery has been a flourishing branch of commerce in the city for centuries. Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, during his fleeting visit to Salamanca at the end of the 19th century, described La Rúa as a street where booksellers and jewellers alternated.

One of these businesses that has extended its history over several generations, dedicated to the jewellery trade, has been Cordón. The importance of the business in Salamanca is evidenced by the fact that a three-story building, erected around 1932, has been popularly known as the Edificio Cordón (Cordón Building).

The text of this new installment from the Museo del Comercio is written by María Eugenia Cordón Rodríguez. María Eugenia is part of the third generation of this family of jewellers. She has penned a story rich with memories, narrating the evolution of the company and the work it has carried out for the Salmantine society since its foundation.
