THREE OLD CAFÉS. SALAMANCA IN THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The Museum of Commerce decided to dedicate 2014 to the city's hospitality industry, a strategic business sector in Salamanca's economy intimately linked to tourism. This new volume in the collection on the history of trade and industry serves as a fitting culmination to the activities focused on this theme.
Stemming from the idea of exploring early 20th-century cafés, the main difficulty was locating sufficient graphic and written documentation on the subject. As examples of those old cafés, where a part of Salamanca's daily leisure activities took place at that time, three are presented here: La Perla, El Suizo, and Las Cuatro Estaciones.
This booklet was authored by José María Hernández Pérez, who had previously collaborated in this collection with the text dedicated to the businesses of the Centenera family. Undoubtedly, this new contribution to the history of Salamancan commerce will achieve the same success as its predecessor.
