Discover one of the most peculiar and lesser-known monuments of 18th-century Salamanca. Part of the annex structures of the Convento del Carmen Calzado de San Andrés, known as the “Salamancan Escorial” due to its large dimensions and austere architectural style, is the Pozo de Nieve (Snow Well). This astonishing construction was where our ancestors stored and preserved snow, brought by mules from the Sierras de Francia and Béjar, to convert it into ice. This ice was then used to make ice creams or sorbets, as a preservative, or for therapeutic purposes.
